"I only know how to approach a place by walking. For what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heat of the unknown awaits just around the corner." Alex Webb - Magnum Photographer.
For my street work, I shoot in black and white having been inspired by the early street photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and his book, "The decisive moment."
To me, that means capturing a little piece of history, a moment that can never be repeated.
"When you photograph a person in colour, you photograph their clothes. When you photograph a person in black and white, you photograph their soul." Ted Grant - Canadian Photojournalist.
I find it more useful to use a small professional compact camera with a short zoom lens to take in a wide street scene or zoom in on just one subject.
Below is a varied gallery of some of my street photography from around the UK and beyond.
